You may already have a good idea of how you want your wedding to look or maybe you have no idea! Pinterest is going to be your best friend when it comes to finding wedding theme ideas but before we go on – what exactly is a wedding theme?
What is a wedding theme?
The word “theme” means: a recurring, unifying subject or idea; motif, often one used decoratively.
In the case of a wedding theme it could something like a bohemian wedding, a classical wedding, a rustic wedding, a fairytale wedding etc.
Some couples just use colour as the theme to unites everything – bridesmaid’s dresses, flowers, table settings etc. Others go into more detail with the style of wedding dress, the table decorations, the table planning board and so on.
How to choose a wedding theme
Choosing a wedding theme is something that makes a wedding personalised and gives the opportunity to share the common interests of the bride and groom with their guests.
The first step would ideally be to choose the wedding venue. The style of the venue will have a bearing on your theme. If it’s an old manor house it might have a lot of oak beams and high ceilings. If it’s a more modern venue it will require a different style of theme.
You may already have an idea of a theme and base your venue search around that theme. For example, perhaps you’d like a rustic style wedding in which case a Barn Wedding Venue would be ideal.
The other factor is the common interests between the bride and groom. If you’re both fans of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings you may want to include that in your theme!

Using Pinterest to choose a wedding theme
If you don’t already have an account, register on Pinterest.com.
The idea with Pinterest is to find pins you like and save them to your boards – much like a corkboard in the real world!
To create a board, click on the + symbol where it says create and select Board. You can make the board secret if you don’t want anyone else to view it. You can create boards like “wedding dress ideas”, “wedding flowers”, “cakes” etc. There is no end to the number of boards you create! And by creating boards and saving pins to these boards you can keep things orderly and know where to find things.
Now use the search tool for something like “wedding flowers”. If you see something you like click on it to view a larger version. You also have the option to save it and then it will ask you which board you want to save it on, so save it on the “wedding flowers” board. Simple!
Some wedding theme examples
This wedding at Highley Manor had a prominent red colour. The flowers on the cake and the tables are similar to the flowers in the bouquet, not to mention the red bridesmaid’s dresses!
This Spring wedding made full use of the in-season daffodils. From the buttonholes to the cake and table decorations these lovely yellow flowers added a Spring-like quality to the proceedings.
This wedding used the colour orange as a major factor in the theme. The lovely centre-pieces had a rustic look to them. This wedding took place in October and orange is a lovely autumnal colour.
